About

Hi.

About This Blog

Its title is my first and middle names. Family and friends call me Lola. I hope you and I become good friends.

This blog features my poems, art and photography. You will also read commentary once in a while about my interests listed below.

“Lolalia Colleen” is my fifth blog at WordPress.

“This Blue Pen” was born in July 2007 and featured many of my romantic and erotic poems. I no longer write that type of poetry, but they are archived here for anyone who wishes to read them.

Two years after I began TBP, I deleted it and coauthored “LolaCandi” with my cousin Candi until July 2010. Most of my contributions were expansions of my previous poems. I also began writing more short stories during this time. You can find them archived here.

I went solo in 2011 and showcased my poetry, art and photography at “My Tangerine Days” for a run ending in May 2014. Most of my poems at MTD were reprints from my earlier blogs, but my photographs were new and, if I may say so, exciting to look at. I posted a new photograph every first Sunday of the month. You can find those photos archived here.

I created “Fires In Ashbarrels” two years later and featured poetry that I had written under the nom de plume Colleen Ackerman. FIA ran until September 14, 2016.

“Dreams Without End” replaced FIA the same month and year. After I put up two posts, I took an eleven-month sabbatical from blogging while I recovered from surgery and fought cancer.

After treatment and therapy and regaining my health with help from good and wise people, I returned to blogging and created “Lolalia Colleen” in August 2017. It’s wonderful to be back.

One thing I never realized when I deleted my other blogs was that I deleted my followers as well. Some of them had become friends through our many dialogues, so this is an apology to them and to all my old followers who may never find me again. And it’s a promise to my new followers that I plan keeping this blog running for many years if my health allows it.

About Me

When I’m not working, writing poetry, making art, or photographing nature, I enjoy cooking and baking, riding horses, camping, fishing, skiing, and reading fantasy and sci-fi. You can also find me watching fantasy/sci-fi TV shows and movies, a love I got from my dad.

I was born in a small town in northwest Pennsylvania when my mom visited relatives there. My dad was a navy man, so I lived in Italy before my parents settled us in San Diego, California. I was home-schooled with an interest in art and poetry, graduated with a B.S. degree in finance from college in New York City, and worked at Citizens Bank and Hilton Hotel in Honolulu, Hawaii where I married the guy of my dreams. After our first child was born, my husband and I moved to a quaint house in Leeds, UK for several years where we had 2 more children. We now live in the USA again and own a home near the beautiful shore of Lake Erie. I am now a veterinarian and raise horses—a dream come true.

Thanks for reading. Be good and take care.

  1. Wow Lola, what a story. I thought I recognised you and I’m pleased you survived cancer. I hope you keep this blog going a long time. I’ll try and make sure there’s lots of sci fi and fantasy for you to delve into ☺️

    1. Hi Simon, Thanks. I’m glad to be a survivor, though my heart goes out to the victims, especially the children and parents I’ve met. I’m doing well, but every checkup brings that bit of trepidation that I may not live to see my children graduate high school, etc., etc. Life is precious and fragile; there are no guarantees any of us will live to see tomorrow. All we can do is fight the good fight: live for today, be thankful for what we have, and hope and pray to do it again tomorrow. 🙂 I’m looking forward to reading your sci-fi and fantasy.
